Vertical conveyor boosted Alfaroc’s warehouse efficiency

Alfaroc Logistics Oy is a Finnish company specializing in warehousing and in-house logistics solutions. The company offers customers comprehensive warehousing services, internal logistics, and 3PL solutions, along with value-added services including labeling, packaging, and assembly. Alfaroc operates in Päijät-Häme, Tuusula, Vantaa, Järvenpää, and Rauma. Read how they streamlined their warehouse operations with a vertical conveyor solution.

Challenge: slow and labor-intensive picking process

Alfaroc uses mezzanines in its warehouses to pick small goods and provide value-added services. Before implementing Ferroplan’s solution, full pallets were lifted to the mezzanine with forklifts. After completing the picking or value-added services, individual packages were returned to the ground floor one by one, again using a forklift. This process was slow and consumed a significant amount of time and forklift capacity.

“Lowering packages always required a reach truck and a driver, making the process inefficient and frustratingly complex,” explains Lasse Tarvainen, Chief Operating Officer at Alfaroc.

Solution: Ferroplan’s vertical conveyor and roller conveyors

To enhance its warehouse operations, Alfaroc chose an Interroll vertical conveyor solution provided by Ferroplan, which includes roller conveyors. This new system allows packages to be transported directly from the mezzanine to the ground-floor dispatch area, eliminating unnecessary intermediate steps and the need for a forklift. Additionally, the vertical conveyor facilitates the movement of goods from the ground floor back to the mezzanine, providing increased flexibility in daily operations.

The vertical conveyor has become an essential part of Alfaroc’s small goods picking process. It has significantly increased efficiency and freed up forklift capacity for other tasks.

“We have streamlined our operations. We save working time, and occupational safety has improved, as the heavy and complicated task of lowering goods with a reach truck is no longer necessary. Packages are now moved down safely and efficiently,” Tarvainen sums up.

While precise figures are not yet available, practical experience indicates that the vertical conveyor has already enhanced efficiency and workflow. As volumes increase, the benefits are anticipated to grow even more.

Smooth collaboration with Ferroplan

Cooperation with Ferroplan was outstanding from the very start. Delivery schedules were adhered to, and user training for the equipment was well-organized. The entire project was smooth and adaptable from beginning to end,” Tarvainen concludes.
